Biffo resigns as Katsina United head coach — five months before contract expires

Abdullahi Usman Biffo, head coach of the Nigeria Professional Football League side, Katsina United, has resigned from his managerial position with “immediate effect”.

Biffo, whose future with the club side has drawn some speculations during the just concluded 2018/19 NPFL season, stated that the “time was right” for him to step down.

The Kwara-born tactician’s contract was due to expire in November 2019, ruling out extension of his tenure with the NPFL side.

The gaffer, whose future had been the subject of speculation during the 2018/19 season, admitted that the time was right for him to step down.

Biffo’ resignation letter, which was made available to TheCable on Saturday, stated: “I Abdullahi Biffo wish to inform the management of Katsina United after a deep thought and consideration, that I have decided to resign from my position with immediate effect as head coach of Katsina United Football Club”.

“It’s not an easy decision for me to take but I have to move on after considering some certain factors. Kindly use this as my one month notice as it’s clearly stated in my terms of contract that; A month notification must be given to the club in case I want to resign.

“Consequently, this is to also intimate the management of a month notification as my original contract run till the end of November, this will enable Katsina United get a new coach before the next football season began.

“However, I wish to implore the management to kindly pay up my outstanding to enable me cater for some personal commitment.

The resignation letter

“I want to thank the Chairman, management staff, Technical Crew and the players for throwing their support behind me which enabled us to have a smooth working relationship. The experience amassed here will forever remain in my memory.”

Biffo helped Niger Tornadoes gain promotion to the NPFL in 2015.
