Bill seeking to establish university of agriculture in Katsina passes second reading at senate
A bill seeking to establish a Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in Funtua, Katsina state, has passed second reading at the senate.
The bill scaled second reading after Bello Mandiya, senator representing Katsina south and its sponsor, moved a motion to lead a debate on it
While leading the debate on Thursday, Mandiya said the proposed university seeks to bridge the gap “that currently exists in our nation’s quest to diversify the economy and take agriculture beyond the current subsistence level.”
The senator also explained that the university will also offer programmes in engineering and areas of applied research which are critical to Nigeria’s development aspirations.
“The objectives for the establishment of the university, as with other centres of research and learning, include; to advance Iearning and to hold out to all persons irrespective of race, creed, sex or political conviction the opportunity of acquiring higher education in agriculture and technology,” he said.
“To provide and promote sound basic scientific training as a foundation for the development of Agriculture and Technology in Nigeria, taking into account indigenous cultures and the need to enhance national unity.”
It passed second reading after Senate President Ahmad Lawan put it to a voice vote.
That will be awesome to such good and patriotic leaders who have zil and courage to bring in the development to their masses. Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in Funtua, will be something boon and historical, that will enhance and bust the economic growth of Funtua, katsina and Nigeria at large. the giant local government in Katsina State, has suffered for long time seeking such development and going out to acquire more skill and knowledge. The FUAT in Funtua will bridge the gap of between the subsistence stage we are in now and the commercialization stage facing the economy of the entire country. At last I am going to conclude my statement With the thankfulness and words if appreciation to Sen.Hon.Bello mandiya who face the challenges with bold and strong heat just to keep the smile in faces of his followers.
