Bisi Akande, former interim national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said the monetisation of politics is a time bomb that “will soon kill Nigerian politicians” if it nothing is done about it.

He said that the development of Nigeria’s political system is being curtailed by the practice.

NAN reports that Akande stated this on Friday at the meeting of Osun APC Elders Forum also known as ‘Agba Osun’ in his country home, Ila.

According to Akande, monetisation of politics should be urgently curtailed because the practice has eroded the core values of politics in the country.

Akande, a former governor in the state, also urged the APC leadership to continue to uphold the politics of service to the people.

“No matter the pressure being promoted by the general outlook of corruption that forms the foundation of the problems in the country, we must not deviate from service to the people,” he was quoted as saying.

“Nigerian politicians are sitting on a time bomb with the practice and growth of monetisation of politics.

The restructuring program should be started where each State will have to contribute to the center as per an agreed formula.
Any State that finds herself not viable should talk with willing states in an effort to form a viable joint (amalgamated) state.
If you call your state a state and you cannot provide for the people of the state, that is not a state.
Let all of us think properly and do the right thing. Do not postpone the evil day. If the right thing is done, there will be no agitation of any type.
Those who agitated for none viable states and got those states created can now see the effect.
None viable states should combine to form viable states. The ruler of a state who cannot make his state viable should resign for whoever has a better idea.
Going to Abuja for handouts must STOP. We should, instead start contributing for the government in Abuja from viable states.
