Blackout in Rivers communities as DisCo announces ‘explosion’ at substation

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) says an explosion has occurred at the Woji injection substation in Rivers state.

According to a statement issued by PHED, the explosion occurred on Sunday.

The company said the current power outage is linked to the explosion, adding that its technical team is currently working to address the situation.

“The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) Plc wishes to inform her esteemed customers residing at Woji and its adjoining environment of an explosion at the Woji Injection Substation,” the statement reads.

“The explosion which occurred on a 15MVA Power Transformer today was as a result of a hotspot on a low voltage (LV) bushing.

“The technical crew of PHED has been deployed to the Injection Substation with a view to fixing the fault.

“Customers can rest assured that power supply will be restored as soon as the fault is treated.
