The bodies of five prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who died in a road accident on Thursday, have been airlifted to Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

The young graduates died in a motor accident along the Abaji-Kwali expressway in Abuja.

They were said to be on their way to Katsina where they had been posted for the NYSC scheme.

Their bodies were moved in a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft from Abuja on Wednesday, and were received at the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo.

Earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement issued by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesperson, had expressed sadness over the incident.

“The President joins the board, management and staff of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragic accident,” the statement had read.

“Commiserating with the families of the youngsters, the President assures that Nigerians share their grief and would continue to uphold them in prayers through this difficult time.”

He had added that the “welfare and security of these young Nigerians, who have obeyed the call to serve the nation with dedication and selflessness” will remain his key priority”.
