At least four people were killed and an unspecified number sustained injuries during an attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Balakari village in Chibok local government area of Borno state.

A source confirmed the attack to TheCable, saying it happened around 11am on Saturday.

“Some rode on motorbikes, while some trekked. They were fully armed and shot into the air, confidently. The military did not respond on time.”

Efforts to confirm the development from Victor Isuku, the police public relations officer in the state, did not yield any result, as he did not answer his call and had not responded to the text message sent to his phone at the time this report was filed.

Chibok came under global spotlight in April 2014 when over 200 female students were abducted from Government Secondary School, in the local government.

While some of the students managed to escape, the whereabouts of over 150 of them are unknown till date.

The promise of former president, Goodluck Jonathan to rescue and reunite the captives with their families, was not fulfilled until he left office more than a year after the incident happened.

Though his government did all its possible best, including attempting to negotiate with the group in order to secure the release of the girls.

Also, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has been making efforts to rescue the Chibok schoolgirls, as they are now known.

During his address at the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Buhari said freedom of the girls, remained a priority of his government.
