The presentation of a book on Nigeria’s 60 years of independence — Remaking Nigeria: Sixty years, sixty voices — is set to be held on Thursday.

The event will take place at the Yar’adua centre, Abuja.

The book, which was edited by Chido Onumah, coordinator of African Centre for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL), is a collection of essays by 60 young Nigerians to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence, which was a milestone achieved in 2020.

Commenting on the importance of the book, Onumah said: “These essays by young and articulate professionals drawn from across the country critically examine the realities of Nigeria’s social, economic and political situation and suggest the options open to us as a nation and how to achieve them.”

The presentation of the book will be marked with an event themed: ‘Towards a Viable Union: A National Dialogue on Remaking Nigeria’.

The event will feature a panel discussion on the crisis of nationhood. The panellists are Tope Fasua, Idayat Hassan, Dike Chukwumerije, Chris Ngwodo, Majeed Dahiru, and Amina Salihu.

Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar is the chairperson of the event while Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti state, is the keynote speaker, and Anyim Pius, former president of the senate, will serve as the book presenter.
