Two out of the five Borno emirs forced to flee their domain by Boko Haram insurgents have returned to their palaces.
The emirs – Muhammadu Askirama of Askira, and Ismaila Mamza of Uba – returned to their respective palaces on Tuesday in the company of Mamman Durkuwa, Borno deputy governor.
The emirs fled to Maiduguri, the state capital, when the insurgents took control of their domain in Askira/Uba local government area of the state two years ago.
The insurgents took control of the area in August 2014 and announced establishment of caliphate rule.
However, the military has succeeded in pushing them away.
Speaking at a short ceremony at their palaces, the monarchs commended the military for their gallantry in routing Boko Haram militants.
They said going by the successes recorded, terrorism would soon be a thing of the past in the country.
Durkuwa assured the emirs that the government would undertake projects to restore life back to the area.
The deputy governor also urged residents to be law abiding and report any security threat to relevant agencies.
The three emirs who are yet to return to their domain are Kyari El-Kanemi, the emir of Bama, Muhammad Ibn Masta, emir of Dikwa, and Muhammad Timta, chief of Gwoza.
