Borno govt to manage information on abducted girls

The Defence Headquarters has said that only the Borno state government, henceforth, will manage information concerning the operations of the military in its effort to rescue the abducted girls of Chibok, as well as other operations against Boko Haram.
The new information flow arrangement was disclosed in a press release by the Director Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, a major general, who decried the sensationalisation of Boko Haram’s onslaughts by the media.
The streamlining of information is aimed at making accurate and timely information regarding the progress of security forces in the search for the abducted girls as well as other operations available to the public, he said.
Prior to this press release, the Defence Headquarters and the Borno state government were the sole purveyors of information about security operations in the beleaguered northeastern state of Nigeria.
Olukolade assured Nigerians that the military would not relent in its efforts in the search, and that the Armed Forces was mindful of the fact that some of the information with which it had been inundated were actually a ploy to distract it from its goal of dealing with terrorism and other violent crimes aimed at crippling the nation.
He added, “In view of the need to provide daily updates on the search of the abducted girls, the Defence Headquarters has directed henceforth, progress reports on the search will be handled by the Borno State Government.”
