Borussia Dortmund team bus hit by explosions, player injured

Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League tie against Monaco was postponed after multiple explosions went off near the Dortmund team bus.

Dortmund’s defender, Marc Bartra, was taken to the hospital after being injured in the incident.

The bus was damaged in two places with German police confirming there were three explosions near the vehicle at around 7pm.

The incident reportedly took place while the vehicle was en route to the stadium for the quarter-final tie.

The game has been rescheduled for 5:45pm on Wednesday.

German police say it is not yet possible to identify what caused the explosion.

A Dortmund police statement read: “In the run-up to the Champions League game between BVB (Dortmund) and AS Monaco, there was just after 1900 tonight an explosion close to the BVB team bus.”

“According to what is currently known, the windows of the bus were (entirely or partly) smashed and one person was injured.

“It is not yet possible to say exactly what the explosion was or exactly where something exploded.”

The postponement was confirmed by UEFA after a meeting between representatives of both clubs.

Security will be stepped up ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League matches.
