Bosun Tijani, minister of communications, innovation and digital economy, has called on Nigerian artificial intelligence (AI) startups to share data that will help deepen understanding of the landscape and strengthen support for innovation.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Tijani described Nigeria’s AI ecosystem as “young but full of promise,” noting that each emerging startup carries the potential to reshape how people live, work and solve uniquely Nigerian problems.

“I’m therefore calling on builders nurturing solutions rooted in our realities — to share information that will allow us better understand the landscape and support innovation in our ecosystem,” he said.

On January 31, the federal government launched the ‘DeepTech_Ready Upskilling’ programme to train young Nigerians in data science and AI.

According to Tijani, the programme is part of efforts to strengthen the government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative, which aims to position Nigeria as a hub for digital skills and development.

The minister said the programme is backed by Google as part of its N2.8 billion grant to upskill young Nigerians in AI.
