Rafael Everton, a Brazilian, has been unveiled as the new coach of Akwa United.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side signed a one-year contract with Everton on Monday.

The former FC Ifeanyi Ubah gaffer replaced Abdu Maikaba, who is now the manager of Plateau United.

Everton, who led FC Ifeanyi Ubah to the 2016 Federation Cup trophy, also had a short stint with Abia Warriors at the start of the 2017/18 NPFL season.

Paul Bassey, Akwa United chairman, said Everton has the experience for the job, having previously worked with two other NPFL clubs.

Akwa United won the Federation Cup in 2017 and finished second in the league last season.
