Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, announced the release of the students on Tuesday night.

“This is to announce that we have secured the release of Precious Adeyemo and Abiola Oyefule – both OOU students recently kidnapped in Ayetoro,” the governor wrote on his official Twitter handle.

The students were said to have been kidnapped on Sunday night when gunmen stormed Igbole Aibo quarters in Ayetoro, shooting sporadically.

The two students were reportedly returning from an outing when they ran into the attackers.

The gunmen were said to have been on the trail of a call card dealer in the area, but were unable to break into her house, after which the students were taken away instead.

In a 10-second video shared on Tuesday night by Emmanuel Ojo, media aide to the Ogun governor, one of the girls was heard weeping, while some persons who appeared to be family members surrounded her.
