Appeal court sacks Jimoh Ibrahim

The court of appeal sitting in Abuja has replaced Jimoh Ibrahim as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ondo state governorship election.

In his ruling on Wednesday, Ibrahim Salauwa, chairman of the panel, held that the primary election which produced Ibrahim was illegal.

Citing the order of Okon Abang, a justice of the federal high court, Abuja, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Ibrahim of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction as the PDP candidate in the state.

But Saulawa said the lower court erred when it replaced Eyitayo Jegede with Ibrahim.

Jegede had expressed optimism that he would not only contest the election, but win.

“Mark my words, we will contest and win this election,” he had told his supporters on Sunday.

“Let me tell you, this is not about Eyitayo Jegede alone, it is about the people of Ondo state, this is about good governance in our state, this is about continuation and improvement on the good things we have been enjoying in our state.”

The latest ruling comes a week after the appeal court adjourned the matter indefinitely, following a stay of proceedings application, which Sheriff’s group filed at the supreme court.

On Tuesday, the apex court ordered the appellate court to deliver judgment on the case.

So all the money that he would have used to pay his contractors have been wasted? All the cars that would have been given on loan to his staff will have to be repainted? This is not funny. Supreme court please open your doors.
