The Nigerian Army says it has rescued a Chibok schoolgirl identified as Salomi Pogu.

Onyema Nwachukwu, deputy director of army public relations, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

Nwachukwu said Pogu alongside a teenager identified as Jamila Adams and a child were rescued at Pulka, a town in Borno state.

“Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed in Pulka today rescued one of the Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists earlier in 2014,” the statement read.

“So far, preliminary investigations reveal that the young girl identified as Salomi Pagu is the same as the Chibok girl published on serial 86 of the online list of abducted Chibok girls.

“Currently, the girl who was intercepted in the company of another young girl, Jamila Adams about 14 years old with a child are in the safe custody of troops and receiving medical attention.”

Boko Haram insurgents had abducted 276 female students from Government Secondary School, Chibok, in April 2014.

Of that number, 163 regained freedom: 57 fled in the early days after their abduction, one escaped, two rescued by the army and a Swiss-coached mediation secured 103.

This is not the first time that a Chibok girl would be rescued from Pulka.

In November 2016, Amina Nkeki, one of the abducted girls, regained freedom in the town.

She was found with a 10-month old baby named Ali. Her self-acclaimed husband was arrested and nothing has been heard about him till date‎.
