Kuburibu, a village near Chibok, has been attacked by men believed to be members of Boko Haram.

According to one of TheCable’s sources in Borno State, the attack on the village, which is located in Damboa Local Government, occurred at about 4am on Friday.

“They burnt their houses and their church,” the source confirmed to TheCable on phone.

“The attackers killed a number of villagers, but they themselves lost some men as well.”

A second source resident in Chibok rued the attack, saying: “The people in Kuburibu are our people. They are our brothers, because we are of the same tribe and we speak the same language.”

He added that the gunmen destroyed “half of the village,” burning the Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN)  — meaning the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria — and killing three people.

“Some villagers ran into the bush, but the gunmen followed them there. They burnt the church in that village, a very big church,” he continued.

“So far, it has been confirmed that three people were killed. They burnt five vehicles and escaped with three others. Up till now, some people are still missing. Whether they ran into the forest or escaped, nobody truly knows.”
