Residents flee as Boko Haram attacks Borno community

Magumeri, a town in Magumeri local government area of Borno state, is currently being attacked by men of the Boko Haram sect.

A resident, who managed to escape, told TheCable that many people have been killed.

He said some of those who also fled found their way to Maiduguri, the state capital, while others are seeking refuge in the bush.

He disclosed that houses were destroyed by the sect, while he saw smoke billowing from the area where the police station is situated.

“Most part of the town have been torched, while smoke was seen billowing over the area where the police station is,” he said.

“I can’t give the number of casualty, but many must have been killed by the terrorists.”

The source said the military was informed of the attack early enough, but nothing was done to prevent it.

A senior military officer told TheCable that security personnel foiled an attack on Auno in Konduga local government area of the state.

As of the time this report was filed, the public relations officer of Operation Lafia Dole could not be reached for confirmation, as his telephone line was out of reach.

A military source said he was on his way to Magumeri to ascertain the situation.
