SGF: Buhari has asked us to pick up Madagascar’s COVID-19 herbal remedy

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the presidential task force on COVID-19 to pick up Covid-Organics, Madagascar’s self-proclaimed plant-based remedy for coronavirus.

Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, broke the news at the daily briefing of the task force, which he heads.

He said Madagascar donated some of the products to Nigeria through Guinea-Bissau and arrangements were being made to pick them up.

Madagascar has since been giving away thousands of bottles of the product, developed by the state-run Malagasy Institute of Applied Research, to countries across Africa.

Guinea-Bissau has received more than 16,000 doses, which it is distributing to 14 other African nations, according to reports.

“Madagascar has made allocations to various countries, and sent them to Guinea Bissau. We‘re supposed to make arrangements to freight Nigeria’s allocation from Guinea Bissau; it‘ll be subjected to the standard validation process for pharmaceuticals,” he said.

“Mr President has given instructions for the airlifting of Nigeria’s allocation of the Madagascar COVID-19 syrup; also given clear instructions that it must be subjected to the standard validation process for pharmaceuticals; there will be no exceptions for this.”

He added that there is a clear instruction that the herbs be subjected to checks by relevant authorities in Nigeria.

Last month, Mustapha had jocularly said the federal government might ask Madagascar to send a plane load of COVID-Organics to Nigeria.

The remedy is a drink derived from artemisia, a plant with proven efficacy in malaria treatment, and other indigenous herbs.

According to L’Express de Madagascar, at least 55 COVID-19 patients in Madagascar have recovered after being treated with the country’s herbal remedy for the disease.

The number of COVID-19 patients said to have been “cured” with the drug rose after three recoveries were announced on Saturday.

Of the 193 COVID-19 cases so far recorded in Madagascar, 101 have recovered while none has died.

But the World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned against adopting the product which has not been “taken through tests to see its efficacy”.

“We are concerned that touting this product as a preventive measure might then make people feel safe,” Matshidiso Moeti, WHO’s head in Africa, had said.

    A slave under a slave!!!
I understand the way and manner politics works. How the elite always get the common men under their political whims and caprices.they play with the minds. FG approving the import of the CVO should not be commended at least not yet. Nigerians have been clamouring for it (CVO) since other African countries have either indicated their interests in the CVO or have benefited from it already.FG knows just what to do. Let’s succumb to their requests and get the CVO into the country. The credibility of the CVO will however be determined by what we(FG) tell them(Nigerians). Then again the questions to ask are they actually doing their bid or just executing the directives of their colonial fathers and/or Creditor(s) and are they garnering money from it. If yes is the case for the aforementioned questions then believe me it will not just go away no no no, not just by the wailing outcry of the poor masses. It takes more than this. Cant be a slave under a slave

We have these leaves in Nigeria, even better ones. The government need not spend kobo importing these. Assemble all that know about leaf and root in every state starting from every local government. Our reps and senators in collaboration with governors can handle these. I assure you that within two months, correct drugs or curatives will emerge.

Slave living under a slave, since when has this COVID Organics been announced by Madagascar as being effective, just now our govt see it that this is the time for them to import it because of Nigerians clamouring for the herbal. We are Africa, and africans do not value what their counterpart are doing; if it were other continents like America or Europe that had discover the so called COV organics, our govt would have import it a long time ago. Also, Nigeria is endowed with these herbal ingredients in making the cure and treatments forthis novel coronavirus;but the truth is we don’t believe in what we do we prefer the white to dictate for us, which is very bad.
