President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo have received a shot of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine at the presidential villa, Abuja.

Suhayb Sanusi Rafindadi, the president’s personal physician, administered the vaccine on Buhari, while the vice-president’s shot was administered by Nicolas Audiferren, his personal physician.

On Friday, Nigeria commenced its COVID-19 vaccination with frontline health workers in Abuja.

The first shot of the vaccine was given to Cyprian Ngong, a medical doctor at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Faisal Shuaib, chief executive officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), administered the dosage.

Buhari described his decision to take the vaccine in public as “a demonstration of leadership and faith in the safety and efficacy of the vaccines”.

“I have received my first jab and I wish to commend it to all eligible Nigerians, to do same so that we can be protected from the virus,” he said.
