Buhari returns to Nigeria after ‘short rest’ in London

President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria from London, where he has been taking a short rest.

Buhari arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 4.45 pm on Thursday.

Among those who received him at the airport were Ibrahim Gambari, his chief of staff; Muhammed Bello, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT); Babagana Monguno, national security adviser, and other security chiefs.

Buhari departed for the UK on March 30 for what the presidency described as his “routine medical check-up.”

The president later said he was taking a “short rest” in London in a letter to Abdullah ll Bin Al-Hussein, the king of the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan.

TheCable had reported that Buhari has spent over 170 days on medical trips abroad since he became president.

  • The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) went on strike to protest poor remuneration and conditions of service. They have since called off the strike.

  • Nigeria’s security woes continued as bandits and Boko Haram insurgents continued their attacks on some communities mostly in the north.
  • Gunmen broke into the federal prison in Imo state and freed over 1,800 inmates before razing a nearby police station.
  • South-east governors set up a regional security outfit to help address the worsening security situation in the zone.
