A fight broke out among Abia delegates at the special convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Wednesday

The mini convention is being held to amend parts of the party’s constitution, particularly to allow for the choice of a consensus presidential candidate for the 2015 election.

The violence at the Old Parade Ground was precipitated by two factions of delegates from Abia state.

According to one of the delegates, the bone of contention is the APC Abia state chapter chairmanship position.

“There are two factions of the APC in Abia state. One faction is led by Fabian Okonkwo while the other is led by Donatus Nwakpa,” he said.

“Those loyal to Nwakpa are disputing the chairmanship of Okonkwo, who is the current chairman based on the APC Abia state April congress.

“The violence you see here is by these two factions from APC Abia state chapter.

“The problem is that the national leadership of the party has refused to step into the matter and resolve it.”
