Laurencia Laraba Mallam, a former minister of environment, and her husband, Pius, have been abducted by armed gunmen along the Abuja-Kaduna road.
The incident occurred on Monday at about 7:00pm in Jere, Kagarko local government area of Kaduna state.
Mallam and her 73-year-old husband were returning to Kaduna from Abuja when they ran into the hoodlums who blocked the Abuja Expressway.
A family source confirmed the incident, saying the kidnappers demanded a N10 million ransom for their release.
Mallam was appointed minister of environment in 2014 by Goodluck Jonathan, former president.
She was succeeded in 2015 by another woman, Amina Mohammed, after Muhammadu Buhari toppled Jonathan at the 2015 presidential election.
