In what looked like a repeat of the April 18 incident at the senate, the mace of the Gombe state house of assembly was stolen during plenary on Thursday.

The legislative symbol of authority was snatched during a siting to remove Ahmed Haruna, minority leader of the assembly, who represents Gombe north state constituency.

The sergeant-at-arms of the house was overpowered while the mace was forcefully taken away.

The incident threw the assembly into disarray.

When normalcy was restored, four lawmakers, all of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were suspended for four legislative days.

They were accused of being involved in the removal of the mace.

A committee was also set up to investigate the incident and report back on Monday.
