Babatunde Jezreel Okungbowa, popular musical artiste and producer better known as OJB Jezreel, has died.

According to a family source, OJB, whose notable works include Jah Is My Lite and Searching died on Tuesday morning after suffering a relapse of the kidney problem that has plagued him for years.

“The relapse has been on for two weeks now, and the family had to keep him on N35,000 dialysis daily before his need for oxygen yesterday,” he said.

OJB was diagnosed with acute kidney failure in 2012 but by 2013 it became literally unmanageable. After a public-driven fundraising, he was flown to India for a transplant, accompanied by first wife Mabel Okungbowa, better known as Mama J, who donated a kidney to him.

On his return, he held a thanksgiving in church although he had become emaciated from his battle with ill-health.

He is survived by three wives — June ‘Ama’, Korede and Mabel — and eight children.

He would have been 50 next month.
