The confusion in the Imo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took a new turn on Tuesday as Uche Nwosu, an in-law to Rochas Okorocha, governor of the state, was announced winner of the governorship primary election.

While Nwosu was being declared winner, Yekini Nabena, spokesman of the APC, issued a statement to say the primary had been suspended indefinitely.

Earlier, spokesman of the Imo chapter of the party, had declared Ahmed Gulak, chairman of the electoral panel, missing.

Eight  members of the 12-man panel appended their signatures to a report containing the result where Nwosu was declared winner.

TheCable obtained a copy of the report.

“That the sensitive materials were sent to the police. But to our surprise, the chairman of the committee was with the results sheets which we insisted should be kept in the custody of the committee secretary which we later released to the returning officers,” the report read.

“The wards conducted their primaries as supported by INEC reports. To our greatest surprise, the early morning of October, the police security numbering over 60, through their commander, ordered us to leave for safety as our chairman has left for Abuja and has declared the result.”
