Oliseh resigns as Eagles coach

Sunday Oliseh, a former captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, has resigned as coach of the team.

The resignation, which came after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) directed the coach to start reporting to Shuaibu Amodu, national technical director of the federation, was confirmed to TheCable by multiple sources in the country’s footballing community.

Oliseh himself confirmed the development on his Twitter page, saying: “Due to contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, benefits to my players, assistant coaches and myself, I resign as Super Eagles chief coach.

“I feel fortunate, blessed and eternally grateful for having had the honour to play, captain and coach this great nation of ours, Nigeria.”

“Shuaibu Amodu is the national technical director and as such he is involved in all the games of the national teams, whether in the under-17, under-20 or Super Eagles,” Chris Green, chairman of the NFF technical and development committee, had announced on Thursday.

“Normally, as the national technical director, Oliseh will report to him (Amodu), while he (Amodu) reports to the technical committee and from there to the general secretary and finally to the executive committee of the NFF.”

Oliseh was unveiled as Eagles coach on July 15, 2015, replacing former teammate Stephen Keshi, who was sacked for allegedly applying to be coach of Cote d’Ivoire while still leading the Nigerian team.
