Oyebanji takes early lead in Ekiti guber, wins Segun Oni’s LGA

Biodun Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has taken an early lead in the governorship election of Ekiti state.

Oyebanji has so far won five LGAs — Ekiti West, Gbonyin, Ido-Osi, Ikole and Irepodun/Ifelodun.

The latter is the LGA of Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti state, who is backing Bisi Kolawole, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer.

Oyebanji secured 13,125 votes in Irepodun/Ifelodun to defeat Kolawole who polled 4,712, while Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) had 5,010 votes.

The total number of registered voters in the LGA is 70,467 while those accredited are 24123. Out of the 24,093 votes cast, 23,515 were adjudged to be valid while 578 were rejected.

In Ekiti West, Oyebanji secured 15,322 votes to defeat Kolawole who had 3,386 and Oni who polled 3,863 votes.

The total number of registered voters is 59,220 while 23,750 voters were accredited. Out of the 23,717 total votes cast, 23,168 were deemed valid while 549 were rejected.

Similarly, Oyebanji had the most votes in Gbonyin LGA, polling 11,247 votes to beat Oni who scored 4,059 and Kolawole who secured 3,947 votes.

The APC candidate also emerged victorious in Ido-Osi, which is the LGA of Segun Oni. He polled 10,321 votes while Oni had 9,489 and Kolawole secured 2,871 votes.

In Ikole LGA, which is that of Kemi Elebute-Halle, candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), the APC won with 16,417 votes, while the PDP got 6,266 votes, SDP secured 5,736, and ADP got 484.

A total of 29,481 valid votes were recorded in Ikole LGA.
