Panic as motorcycle operators stage violent protest in Abuja community

Residents of Karu, a community in Abuja, have been thrown into a state of panic following a violent protest by motorcycle operators.

The motorcycle operators have destroyed vehicles and attacked residents in the area.

The protest which began around 11am on Sunday has forced many churches in the area to lock their gates and residents to stay indoors.

The cause of the agitation by the motorcycle operators is presently unknown.

Religious centres which were opened for Sunday service have asked members to remain indoors to avoid being attacked by the protesters.

TheCable understands that operatives of the Nigeria police and the army have been deployed to the area to restore law and order.

Residents of Karu, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Orozo, Karshi, among other towns in the area, are affected by the development.

Motorists navigating through the areas have been asked to keep off the route until normalcy is restored.
