Osinachukwu Ideozu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been declared winner of the rerun election in Rivers west senatorial district.

Ideozu polled 107,166 votes to defeat Otelemaba Amachree, his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, who had 48,898 votes.

A First Class product of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Ideozu was first elected into the senate in 2015, but the appeal court ordered his removal seven months later.

He served as a commissioner under Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of the state.

The declaration of Ideozu brings the Rivers senatorial election to conclusion after two failed attempts in July and October.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had postponed election in the state indefinitely, but rescinded  its decision after the senate threatened to boycott sittings over the state’s legislative poll.

Earlier, Magnus Abe of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and George Sekibo of the PDP, were declared winners in Rivers south east and Rivers east senatorial districts.
