The torching of properties has continued across Lagos, with the family home of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state, and the head office of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) in Lagos Island, being affected.

A police station in the local government area has also been set ablaze.

A resident of the area told TheCable that suspected hoodlums clashed with the police earlier in the day.

At least five police stations were burnt in Lagos on Tuesday.

Sanwo-Olu had declared a 24-hour curfew after widespread violence across the state but protesters refused to leave the streets.

Some soldiers had invaded the protest ground at Lekki toll gate on Tuesday night, opening fire on protesters.

This sparked an outrage, within and outside the country. Hillary Clinton, former US secretary of state, had asked President Muhammadu Buhari to call the military to order.
