Senate President Bukola Saraki and Abdulfatah Ahmed, governor of Kwara state, have pulled out of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Both men made their decision known via Twitter on Tuesday evening.

“I wish to inform Nigerians that, after extensive consultations, I have decided to take my leave of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Saraki wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

Some minutes later, Ahmed also tweeted that he had left the ruling party.

“Following consultations and in response to calls by major stakeholders in the state, I have moved to the PDP as APC can no longer serve as a platform for achieving the aspirations and expectations of my people,” he tweeted.

However, Saraki has been silent on the party he is joining.

The development comes less than 24 hours after the national working committee of the APC dissolved the Kwara faction of the ruling party loyal to Saraki.

TheCable had reported that Ahmed and two APC governors would defect from the ruling party.

The remaining two are Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Aminu Tambuwal. While Ortom has returned to PDP, Tambuwal is finalising his plans to pull out of APC.

All the politicians who defected were members of the PDP during the time of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
