The senate has adjourned its sitting to November 25, following the tear-gassing of the national assembly  by policemen while Aminu Tambuwal, speaker of the federal house of representatives, attempted to enter the assembly complex for a deliberation of President Goodluck Jonathan’s request to extend the state of emergency in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states.

David Mark, the senate president (pictured) announced the adjournment, disclosing that Suleiman Abba, the inspector-general of police, would be invited to the senate next Tuesday.

He added that the service chiefs who were supposed to appear before the senate on Thursday would now do so next Tuesday.

“The business of the national assembly remains shut until next Tuesday,” Mark said, condemning the siege on national assembly by security operatives.
