Nabbed suicide bomber ‘burnt alive’ in Gombe

A suspected Boko Haram member who tried to detonate a bomb at the Gombe Line Park in Gombe, Gombe state, has been apprehended and burnt to death.

A witness told TheCable on phone that the man was apprehended some minutes before 1pm while preparing to blow up himself at the park, but a mob that quickly assembled refused suggestions that the bomber should be handed over to the police and instead “burnt him alive”.

“One guy entered with a bomb, and as he was trying to connect the bomb, people saw him and got hold of him,” he said.

“The police came to arrest him and they wanted to take him to the station, but the people insisted that they were going to kill him. So they gathered tyres and burnt him alive.”

He added that men of the anti-bomb squad of the Gombe state police command evacuated the bomb from the park.

A bomb blast at the same park on October 31 resulted in the death of “more than 30 people”.
