Suicide bomber ‘gunned down’ at Borno IDP camp

Security operatives in Borno state killed a suicide bomber, who attempted to penetrate a transit camp of internally displaced persons on Saturday.

According to PRNigeria, the strange behaviour of the attacker drew the attention of the security personnel a the camp located in Muna garage in Maiduguri, the state capital.

He was said to have been shot before he could detonate the explosive device attached to him.

The camp is used to check and screen potential displaced people before being allowed into any of the IDP facilities in the state.

Ibrahim Abdulkadir, spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the north-east, said the mangled body of the suicide bomber had been evacuated.

Six people were killed in multiple explosions recorded in the ancient city on Friday.

Suicide attacks have been the major challenge to the counter insurgency operation of the military.
