Wenger stays, signs two-year deal with Arsenal

Arsene Wenger, manager of Arsenal Football Club, has extended his stay at the club by sealing a two-year deal with the north London side.

This is coming after the 67-year-old won a record 13th FA Cup for the English side.

According to BBC, the agreement does not include a break clause and, should it be completed, will extend his reign to 23 years.

Despite the frustration of many fans and the numerous call for Wenger’s sack, Arsenal do not consider this as his last contract with the club.

BBC adds that Arsenal are expected to spend at least £100m on new players in the upcoming transfer window – which opens on 1 July – having also spent around that figure last summer.

The Gunners finished fifth in the Premier League this season, the first time they have finished outside the top four since the Frenchman joined in 1996 — missing the UEFA Champions league for the first time in 20 years.

Wenger met Stan Kroenke, club owner, on Monday to determine his future, with the decision relayed to directors at a Tuesday board meeting.

An official announcement is expected later on Wednesday.
