President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday approved the appointments of two deputy directors-general for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
The appointees are Apollonius Agev and Kio Amieyeofori. While Agev hails from Benue state, Amieyeofori is from Rivers.
The approval was contained in a statement by Olusegun Adekunle, permanent secretary, general services office, office of the secretary to the government of the federation.
According to the statement, the duo are to resume office with immediate effect.
The statement added that the appointments are in fulfillment of “Para. 4 (1) & (2) of the relevant Instrument establishing the NIA”.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Ambassador Apollonius Demenongu Agev from Benue State (North Central) and Mr. Kio Solomon Benibo Amieyeofori from Rivers State (South-South) as Deputy Directors-General at the National Intelligence Agency,” the statement read.
“The appointments are in fulfillment of Para. 4 (1) & (2) of the relevant Instrument establishing the NIA.”
The statement said Ahmed Abubakar, NIA DG, who was appointed in January, would assign responsibilities to his new deputies.
“The director-general of the National Intelligence Agency, in line with the provisions of the Instrument under reference, will assign areas of responsibilities to the DDGs who will assist him in carrying out his functions as director-general,” the statement read.
“The appointments take immediate effect.”
Abubakar was appointed to replace Ayo Oke, who was sacked on October 30, 2017, following a long drawn probe into the $43.5m found in an apartment in Lagos.
