Buhari orders removal of military checkpoints

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the removal of all military checkpoints across the country.

Aliyu Ismaila, permanent secretary, ministry of defence, disclosed this to state house correspondents at the end of a meeting between the president and service chiefs at the presidential villa.

“The president has instructed the chief of defence staff to get the chief of army staff and the inspector-general of police to remove all the military men along the roads across the country,” Ismaila said.

According to Ismaila, the president ordered the police to take control of internal security.

He also said that the military high command briefed Buhari on the relocation of the command centre to ‎Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, as directed by the president on the day of his inauguration.

Ismaila said strategies for ending Boko Haram attacks in the region were also discussed at the meeting and he assured the public that peace and security would return to the north-east very soon.
