Buhari picks Akande, Ajimobi’s ex-chief of staff, to chair NCC board

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Adeolu Akande, former chief of staff to Abiola Ajimobi, ex-governor of Oyo state, as chairman, board of commissioners of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, announced the appointment in a statement on Monday.

Adesina said it was made in order “to fast-track the targets and mandate of the ministry of communications and digital economy”.

Akande was governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo in the buildup to the 2019 elections.

Adesina also announced the appointment of Uche Onwude as the non-executive commissioner of the NCC.

“Desirous of fast-tracking the targets and mandate of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the following new appointments in the Parastatals listed below:

“1. Nigerians Communications Commission (NCC) (a) Prof. Adeolu Akande (South West) replaces Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye (South West) as Chairman, Board of Commissioners – subject to Senate confirmation,” he said.

“Mr Uche Onwude (South East) replaces Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Ararume (South East) as Non-Executive Commissioner – subject to Senate confirmation.”

“The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA): Abubakar Sa’id  was appointed as the board chairman; Habibu Ahmed Imam (north-west), board member; Mohammed Sa’idu Kumo, board member.

“The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA): Abubakar Sa’id replaces Akande as Board chairman, Habibu Ahmed Imam (north-west) replaces Lawal Bello Moriki (North-west), Mohammed Sa’idu Kumo as board member.”
