President Muhammadu Buhari has renewed the appointment of Chiedu Ugbo as managing director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).

Ugbo was appointed in August 2016 for a four-year tenure as substantive head of the power holding company.

He was appointed alongside Babayo Shehu, director of finance and administration; and Ife Oyedele, director of engineering and technical services.

Laolu Akande, spokesman to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, announced Ugbo’s reappointment in a statement on Thursday.

He said the president also appointed three additional directors to assist in improving the operations of the NDPHC.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the renewal of the appointment of Mr Joseph Chiedu Ugbo as the Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company and Messrs Babayo Shehu and Ifeoluwa Oyedele as Executive Directors respectively,” the statement read.

“This renewal will take effect from August 25, 2020 for a period of four (4) years.

“The appointment of three (3) additional directors have also been approved for more effective and efficient coverage of the company’s areas of activity.”

Ugbo is a legal practitioner and infrastructure regulations specialist with extensive experience in electricity industry reform and privatisation.

For 15 years, he provided legal advisory services to public sector power entities, including legal support to erstwhile National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and to the Bureau of Public Enterprises during the privatisation of the 20 successor companies of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

Ugbo was first appointed in acting capacity, in June 2016, when the federal government dissolved the executive management of the company, and directed its managing director and all the executives to immediately hand over to the most senior officers in their respective departments.
