Bundesliga wrap-up: Okoroji provides assist as Ujah, Collins, Awoniyi shine

Following conclusion of Bundesliga matches over the weekend, our torchlight was on the performances of Nigerian players in the German league 1 and 2.

Here’s is a wrap of how it panned out.

Jamilu Collins lasted the full duration as Paderborn, relegation battlers, played out a 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday.

Ademola Lookman, Charlton Athletic product, was an unused substitute.

At the Commerzbank-Arena (Frankfurt am Main), Mainz shocked Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0.

Taiwo Awoniyi and Karim Onisiwo held their own upfront for Mainz. Onisiwo accounted for an assist while Awoniyi picked up a 47th minute booking.

Defender Kevin Akpoguma was benched for the entirety of Hoffenheim’s 2-2 draw at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Jordan Torunarigha, a fast rising centre-back, fought bravely but fell 1-0 with Hertha Berlin at Borussia Dortmund.

Anthony Ujah, a Nigerian striker, accounted for an assist as Union Berlin were held to a 1-1 draw by Schalke 04 on Sunday.

In another Bundesliga game that took place, three Nigerian players — Felix Uduokhai, Noah Sarenren-Bazee and Kingsley Ehizibue — were in action as Augsburg forced Koln to a 1-1 draw.

Uduokhai and Sarenren-Bazee featured for Ausgsburg with Ehizibue suiting up for the visitors.

In Bundesliga 2, Felix Agu, a Nigerian born wing-back, played the final half hour in VfL Osnabruck’s 0-0 stalemate at VfB Stuttgart.

Meanwhile, Chioma Okoroji, a fast rising full-back, provided two assists in Jahn Regensburg 3-0 massacre of Darmstadt.
