The Nigerian army on Friday imposed a restriction movement of persons during Saturday’s Borno central senatorial bye election in the state.

Tukur Gusau, media coordinator of Operation Lafiya Dole, announced this in a statement issued in Maiduguri, capital of the state.

“The theater command OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE wishes to inform the residents of Maiduguri metropolitan council and Jere local government area (LGA) that a restriction order will be effective during the bye election scheduled on Saturday  in Borno central senatorial zone of the state,” the statement read.

“The restriction will involve the use of vehicles, tricycles, bicycles and animals.”

Gusau explained that the restriction will take place between 6am and 5pm.

“Similarly, no vehicles would be allowed into and out of the senatorial zone during the bye election exercise,” Gusau said.

He called on the voters to come out freely to exercise their constitutional rights, saying that appropriate security measures have been put in place to guarantee peaceful election exercise throughout the senatorial.
