CAF CC: Rivers United to face USM Alger in quarter-final

Rivers United have been drawn against USM Alger of Algeria in the quarter-finals of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup. 

The fixture was drawn in a ceremony on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt.

The first leg of the encounter holds March 31 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, before United travel to Algiers seven days later for the tie’s second leg.

The winner of the two-leg encounter would progress into the semi-final to face either Libya’s Abu Salem FC or RS Berkane of Morocco.

The Nigerian club finished second in Group C and secured the knockout phase ticket following a dramatic win over Ghana’s Dream FC.

The Pride of Rivers had to dig deep to score a 100th-minute winner after the Ghanaian club had struck the first blow in the first half.

Rivers United garnered 12 points from four wins and two losses to qualify for the quarter-final for their second consecutive season in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, Young Africans won their group with 13 points from four wins and one draw in six games.
