Cameroon has won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Egypt 2-1.

For the first time in three AFCON final meetings, Cameroon trumped Egypt to win the West African country’s fifth continental title.

They had lost twice in the final to the North Africans in 1986 and 1998.

Egypt took the lead in the 22nd minute but Cameroon equalised in the 59th minute and shocked the Egyptians with an 87th-minute goal from Vincent Aboubakar.

Going into the final game, the statistics favoured Egypt to win a record eight title but Cameroon’s unbeaten record in the last fifteen games and the defeat of Ghana in the semi-final had shown how determined they were to win the title.

The Egyptian team was unbeaten in its last 24 games in the Nations Cup and unbeaten in the last seven games against Cameroon since 2002.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are the first team to win this tournament five times in 15 years.
