The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has demanded the arrest and prosecution of Idris Tenshi, a Muslim cleric, over his comments about Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the president.

The cleric, in a sermon, described the wife of the president as an “infidel” who should be killed.

Speaking in Hausa, the cleric said: “Tinubu’s wife is an unbeliever and even among the unbelievers, she is a leader.

“She is among those that Allah has instructed us to kill because she is among the leaders of the unbelievers.

“She is a pastor. That is what the Qur’an says that leaders of the unbelievers should be killed.

“So, if a person is called a pastor what is that person? A leader. If a person is called Imam, what is he? A leader.

“Therefore Allah said leaders among the unbelievers should be killed. She is not among the unbelievers that Allah said we (Muslims) can marry.”

Reacting via a communique issued after a meeting on Friday, Belusochukwu Enwere, chairman of YOWICAN, said there is an urgent need for government and security authorities to take action against the cleric.

“NEC is calling for the immediate arrest of the Muslim Cleric (Idris Abdulaziz Dusen Tenshi), who has called for the killing of the wife of the President, Sen. Oluremi A. Tinubu, for being a Christian describing her as an infidel,” the statement reads.

“The NEC is calling for the public prosecution of the cleric and wishes to request that the said preacher be restricted from preaching in Nigeria to serve as a deterrent to others.

“The NEC is giving the federal government and security agencies to act immediately to avoid further deterioration of the security situation in the country because of the unguided statement or utterance.”
