Canada battled New Zealand and a 30-minute first-half stoppage to end their match 0-0 at the Commonwealth Stadium.

The match was stopped as lightning lurked around Edmonton, but the physical contest between the two sides didn’t relent from the first minute to the last.

There were numerous near-misses at either end of the field with both teams hitting the post, which included a penalty from New Zealand’s Amber Hearn.

In the other match of the group, Lisi Wang’s injury-time goal gave China a deserved 1-0 win over the Netherlands.

The Chinese dominated possession and other key statistics of the game but had to wait till Wang’s 91st-minute goal to give their fans something to cheer.

Qualification in the group will be decided on the last day as all four teams stand a chance of advancing to the knockout stage.
