Caverton Helicopters says a simulator, which would be used to train pilots, will be delivered in the second quarter of 2020.
The company made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Muhtar Shaibu Usman, director-general of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The delegation consisted of some senior management staff of Caverton Offshore Support Group (COSG), Caverton Helicopters and representatives of Thales France.
Chaudhry Ismael and Barbier Anthoine, representatives of Thales who did a presentation, said the aim of buying the simulator is to establish a European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and NCAA approved flight simulation training device operator.
Flight simulation training services to be offered include type rating, recurrent training and proficiency checks for both visual flight rules (VFR), instrument flight rules (IFR) for offshore missions, and VIP operations to unprepared landing sites.
It will be qualified to meet EASA Level D standard, the highest level of qualification for a simulator.
Aderemi Makanjuola, COSG board chairman, said the simulator would enable pilots that fly AW139 twin-engine helicopters, one of the most popular helicopter platforms in Nigeria, to be fully immersed in a realistic virtual environment representing Nigerian operational areas.
Makanjuola thanked the NCAA for their scrutiny in ensuring Caverton delivered in her duties; in what he called ‘thorough harassment’.
