CBN BEGINS TO MONITOR BDCs’ COMPLIANCE WITH ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING RULES 

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it will begin mystery shopping exercises across bureau de change (BDC) outlets to strengthen compliance with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations.

CBN announced in a circular to all licensed BDC operators, signed by Amonia Opusunju, director of the compliance department, on April 17.

Mystery shopping is a technique companies use to evaluate service quality, compliance with regulations, and gather information on specific products.

The apex bank said the move is part of its enhanced oversight of illicit financial flows in the country.

BOLA TINUBU INT’L AIRPORT TO RESUME FLIGHT OPERATIONS APRIL 23

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna, Niger state, will resume flight operations on April 23.

Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, announced the development in a post on X on April 17.

Keyamo said the Niger state government has partnered with Overland Airways to commence flight operations from the airport.

The federal government says it will launch an initiative to reduce air travel costs for the federal civil service through a structured, technology-driven discount programme.

The ministry of finance announced the development on April 17 in a statement by Mohammed Manga, its director of information and public relations.

According to the statement, the initiative, tagged ‘BisonFly Project,’ reflects the government’s commitment to achieving cost savings on all air travel.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says Nigeria will navigate global shocks due to the reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu.

Axel Schimmelpfennig, IMF mission chief for Nigeria, spoke during a visit to Lagos and Abuja from April 2 to 15, where he led a delegation to hold discussions for the 2025 Article IV Consultations with Nigeria.

The team met with Wale Edun, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy; Abubakar Kyari, minister of agriculture and food security; Yemi Cardoso, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); ministry of environment and other stakeholders in the private sector, academia, labour unions, and civil society.

NNPC GCEO TARGETS $60BN INVESTMENTS IN OIL, GAS SECTOR BY 2030

Bayo Ojulari, group chief executive officer (GCEO), Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, says his administration plans to attract sectoral investments worth $60 billion by 2030.

Ojulari spoke during a town hall meeting with the company’s staff held at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on April 17.

The GCEO also said he plans to raise crude oil production to over two million barrels per day (bpd), sustained to 2027 and three million bpd by 2030, and targeting an uptick in refining output to 200 thousand barrels per day (kbpd) by 2027, and 500 kbpd by 2030.

DANGOTE REFINERY REDUCES EX-DEPOT PETROL PRICE TO N835/LITRE

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has further reduced the ex-gantry price of premium motor spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, to N835 per litre. 

According to sources at the refinery, the company dropped the price of the petrol sold to oil marketers to N835 per litre, six days after the refinery reduced it to N865 per litre.

FAAN SHUTS DOWN ENUGU AIRPORT TO REPAIR ‘SUDDEN RUPTURE’ ON RUNWAY 

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

In a statement on April 19, Obiageli Orah, the authority’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, said the shutdown is for emergency repairs to be conducted on a section of the runway.

The FAAN said the repairs will run from April 22 to May 6.
