French automobile manufacturer, CFAO Automotive Group has announced that plans are already afoot for the commencement of vehicle assembly operations in the country.
Mr. Olivier Levigne, the group’s managing director, made this known during a visit to the National Automotive Council (NAC) in Abuja on Thursday, 17th April 2014.
According to Levigne, the company’s 15,000 square metre workshop at Amuwo Odofin, Lagos is now being converted into a vehicle assembly line.
He also solicited support for an enabling environment to ensure smooth manufacturing of Mitsubishi and Fuso light trucks, as well as pickups.
Director-General of NAC, Engr. Aminu Jalal commended CFAO for taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the Federal Government under the Nigerian Automotive Industrial Development Plan (NAIDP) for vehicles.
He assured his guest that government has put in place the appropriate fiscal measures, incentives and business environment for investors under the automotive development plan.
The Nigerian Federal Executive Council (FEC) has an Automotive Industrial Policy Development Plan aimed at stimulating in-country manufacture of cars and gradually phasing out the importation of second-hand cars, popularly known as Tokunbo.
