Unknown gunmen have murdered Austin Icheghe, the Ughelli branch chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Delta.
According to his niece, Egunor Uviesa, the deceased was shot at about 9pm on Thursday in front of his house at No 14 Ekredjebor Street, Ughelli, while alighting from his vehicle.
“As soon as he came down from his vehicle, they accosted him and shot him on the head,” NAN quoted Uviesa as saying on Friday.
“He was immediately rushed to a private clinic in Ughelli where he was confirmed dead,.”
As at Friday, blood stains were still visible on the spot where he was shot, as sympathisers continued trooping in to console the family.
Celestina Kalu, spokesman of the Delta state command of the Nigeria police force, confirmed the incident in a text message to NAN, which read: “Yes sir, he [Icheghe] was murdered by unknown gunmen last night’.”
