Chamberlain Squash Open: Zahed charges to victory in all-Egyptian final

Egypt’s Zahed Mohammed has won the men’s title at the 2018 Chamberlain Squash Open.

Mohammed defeated fellow Egyptian Youssef Soliman 3-0 in a rousing game at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The world number 25 won $25,000 as prize money.

Speaking after lifting the trophy, Mohammed described his journey right from the qualifying rounds as very encouraging.

He thanked the organisers of the tournament for the initiative and said it would help grow the game of squash.

England’s Millie Tomlinson thrashed Menna Hamed of Egypt 3-0 (11-4, 13-11, 11-7) to emerge winner of the women’s category.

Tomlinson will go home with $10,000

Present at the 2018 Chamberlain Squash Open finals were Kweku Adédàyo Tandoh, chairman of Lagos state sports commission, Boye Oyerinde, president of Nigeria Squash Federation, John Obaro, managing director of Remita.

Chamberlain Usoh, promoter of the tournament, thanked all the players for exhibiting a high level of good sportsmanship. He also appreciated the Lagos state government, sponsors of the tournament, the squash community and fans of the sport.
